No Time to Spare? Quick Tire Check

When it comes to safety, tires are one of the most important components of your vehicle. Think about it: tires affect your vehicle handling, ride, braking, and overall safety. Ideally, tire inspections should be performed monthly.

That being said, the average driver would likely rather leave a full tire inspection to the experts. While it’s true that there are several ways to check if you need new tires, there is one simple check you can do today.  

The Quarter Test

As you drive on the tires, the tread gradually wears down. If you reach the point where there’s 2/32nds of an inch of tread or less left, the tires so longer have enough traction with the road, leaving you with an unsafe tire. 

To easily check a tire’s tread:

1. Put the edge of the coin into the tread, with the Queen going in head first.
2. If the top of the Queen’s head is covered by tread, that’s good. If the top of her head is entirely visible, it’s time to replace the tire.
